An Ovation For The European Parliament Visitors

Visitor Centre installed with interactive audio visual experience

Puidoux, October 2017: Telmaco S.A., Europe's leading AV company and 2017 award winning AV integrator (InAVate Awards), has installed the multi-touch interactive media stations which provide the visitors with the experience of Europe and the European Parliament in a playful way. Supplying the required 10 channels of audio is Merging Technologies’ Ovation Audio & Event Sequencer.

This exiting new ‘Parlamentarium’ facility opened on July 3 and is intended to give the visitor more than just information about the workings of European democracy. Telmaco's interactive technology offers a direct and fascinating insight into decision making at the EU level enabling the visitors to view the MEPs and contact them directly. The main feature is the 360° cinema with 12 soft edged and warped projection channels on a cylindrical screen of approximately 13 metres in diameter, with accompanying multi-channel audio content storage and distribution in all European languages. This provides the Parlamentarium visitor the opportunity to virtually experience a plenary sitting of the European Parliament, or even take part in one, assuming the role of an MEP.

Visitors will enjoy using the Photobooth application to take a photo of themselves in one of the virtual backgrounds available and email it to their friends and family as a greetings card from the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Telmaco has also installed the Role Play Game experience, unique to the Parlamentaria of Strasbourg and Brussels, which addresses different types of environmental or political issues to the young audience, inviting them to participate in their resolution through the implementation of highly sophisticated interactive technologies.

The screens are fed from Dataton’s Watchpax Multi Display Player which is directly linked to the Ovation Audio Server. These two devices can share the same timeline for ease of operation, however in this case, the whole installation is under Crestron control. This is the first time that Ovation has been controlled in this way. On this occasion, Ovation is being used for the storage and playback of the 10 audio channels of the 360 movie soundtrack. The audio files are in .wav format which is only one of the many audio file formats that can be handled by Ovation and the Pyramix DAW that is used to edit and mix the final soundtrack.

The output of Ovation is connected via RAVENNA/AES67 to Merging’s Hapi Networked Interface which acts as the DAC to feed LB Lautsprecher PA 6200 amplifiers. These are driving loudspeakers that have been custom designed and built by LB Lautsprecher.

Athan Velouzos, Telmaco’s Market Manager for Museums, V&A-R, Simulation, Edutainment made the following comment; “This is an ambitious project with a combination of equipment we had not tried before. Everything is working extremely well and is being much enjoyed by the visitors to the Parlamentarium.”
