Unlike other systems, Algorithmix De-Scratcher Plugin works virtually without artifacts, providing the correct setting for all parameters. 9E\T vsH z֥The de-scratching algorithm consists of two main parts: the de-clicking filter and the de-crackling filter. While the De-Clicking filter is used to remove heavy clicks from old vinyl records or switching noise coming from audio equipment, the De-Crackling filter removes any remaining crackles. i$E XIH4The Crackle Scope help you find the optimal setting for the decrackler part, thereby minimizing the occurrence of artifacts. The higher the sensitivity parameter is set, the more clicks are removed. At a setting of zero, virtually all clicks pass through the filter. For the de-clicking of typically polluted vinyl records transferred to the digital domain, a sensitivity value of approximately 70 works well in the most cases.V v A R.H"" f & H Fig.2: Typical click in the signal taken from a vinyl record (left) and restored signal (right).)v +& HV@T vH ~For additional help, we highly recommend using the difference feature of the De-Scratcher PlugIn, allowing for intuitive optimal parameter setting. Unlike other systems it uses an advanced algorithm keeping as much as possible of the original signal ambience. JtB`F9 @HThe crackle part first recognizes and extracts crackles from the original signal using different pattern recognition methods. If working with very damaged material, it is very difficult to it to distinguish between unwanted crackles and sharp dynamic jumps in the original signal. Therefore the first stage allows some more signal parts to be classified as suspicious, i.e. ready to remove. The next stage decides by proper using the parameters detection and reduction which part of this suspicious signal should be removed and the other part mix back to the original signal. CcG3 4HThe parameter detection mark the energy threshold in the suspicious signal for the decision: treat/pass through. The parameter reduction smoothes the crackles more or less dependent on adjusted value. x`F IE XHUsually a setting of both, detection and reduction parameter to 50 is a good starting point. If crackles still pass through the filter, increase both values. At the end, try to lower the reduction parameter first, and second the detection parameter until just all crackles are removed this allows maximum of the clean original signal to pass through the filter.cGJ3 4HThe higher the detection parameter is set, the more crackles are removed from the original signal. An extreme setting of reduction, close to 100, results in a smoothing of the input signal. In general, this parameter can safely be set to 80 without any audible artifacts. In some cases, even an extreme setting up to 100 can still improve the quality of processed audio material. IMT v3H ~As in the de-clicking process, the final setting of the De-Crackling parameter should be performed by critically listening to different parts of the audio file to be de-crackled. We highly recommend using the difference feature of the PlugIn allowing optimal parameter set-up in a very intuitive way. You can switch over between the original input signal and the input/output difference, i.e., the part of signal removed by the de-crackling algorithm.
