NorthStar Audio Recording Services & Consultancy BV |
NorthStar incorporates several activities in the professional audio industry. Northstar's objective is to combine the disciplines of Artistic Production and Audio Recording, with Research & Development and the Sales & Marketing of high quality professional audio equipment.
As a consulting partner working with many ‘state of the art’ studio facilities and audio manufacturers around the globe, NorthStar is able to deliver a unique package of expertise, which specialises in ‘High Resolution ’ Audio Solutions and Productions.
Northstar's facility (see picture) is been regarded one of the most advanced in sound quality and musical results on the globe, by acquiring and designing ultra fast 'rise time - and settling time' tools in the recording and reproduction chain. This, and the 20 years of artistic and musical experience in the recording business, makes Northstar 'leading edge' for surround SACD and (HD)-DVD production in both recording and mastering of high profile audio and video productions.
The latest development that Northstar has initiated with dCS and Merging Technologies is a 12ch DXD recording/reproduction chain. The dCS digital filter algorithms designed for this superb DXD (352,8 kS/s) format, do exceed the possibilities of DSD in the professional production chain, and deliver a clean, ultra high bandwidth master, that is ideal for supporting SACD and (HD)-DVD consumer end-product. Impulse response, usable bandwidth and Signal to Noise ratio of this system, are the best available at this moment.
A striking example of the superior behavior of this DXD technique, are the experimental recordings Northstar made of Sea mammals, especially Dolphins.
The bandwidth of their sonar and communication/emotion 'whistles', goes up to 160kHZ, and until recently this only could be recorded on very specialized analogue tape machines. Northstar proved, with a clean bandwidth of 192kHz (70dB SNR at 170kHz!), to be able to catch all the animals had to say...playing back at a 10th of the speed, new secrets of the Dolphins language were discovered, like they apparently mention their name when they meet us...
