  • Interchange: Final Cut Pro XML

    • FCP XML supports the import and export of MasterClips, Bins, Sequences or Projects from/to
      Final Cut Pro to/from Pyramix.

    • To export a FCP XML file from Final Cut Pro, either select a single Sequence or a full Project in
Final Cut Pro and select the File > Export > XML menu. This will export either a single Sequence
(with the choice of all referenced MasterClips along with it) or a full Project including all
Sequences and MasterClips contained in it.

    • To import a FCP XML file in Pyramix, create an empty project and select the Project > Import
menu and choose the Final Cut Pro XML format.

    • When importing in Pyramix a FCP XML file containing more than one Sequence or MasterClip,
Pyramix will prompt you to choose which of the available Sequences you would like to import in
the timeline and will allow you to import all others in the Default Library of the current project.

    • The following items are imported by Pyramix:

      • Video and Audio Bins, Sequences and MasterClips

      • Video and Audio Tracks Names

      • Video and Audio Clips

 Pyramix Virtual Studio 5.0 SP2 (build 60)

Here is an overview of some key new features of Pyramix 5.0 SP2. For more in depth details, please consult the release notes installed with the Pyramix software.

  • MXF implementation is now available. Current status of (audio) MXF support is:

    • Pyramix MXF implementation can read and decode MXF files following specifications AS
WELL as files coming from Avid / Digidesign workstations.

    • Pyramix MXF can generate valid MXF files complying with MXF specifications and have
passed the validations tests provided by Snell & Wilcox.

    • MXF files generated by Pyramix are not currently recognized by Avid (unknown) nor ProTools
(crash). Please note that files generated by 3rd party manufacturers show identical results.
Avid & Digidesign apparently are working at enhancing their MXF implementation, which
does not seem to follow some existing MXF specifications. We expect an improvement of the
current situation in the coming months. Merging is also investigating alternative solutions for
      furthering the compatibility.

    • As of today, supported MXF formats are OP1A and OPAtom, as well as potentially OP1B,
OP1C, OP2A, but these remain to be fully validated.

    • MXF Essences supported today are AES3 & Broadcast Wave audio files (conforming to
      SMPTE 382M).

  • EMC, Controllers and Oasis

    • Remote control new implementation including HUI and MackieControl support:
Merging’s new name for this controller support software option in V5.0 is “EMC” (Enhanced
Midi Control). Former V4.3 name for this option was “HUI”. Pyramix users with existing “HUI”
software option will automatically be upgraded free of charge to the new “EMC” option.

    • Supported and validated controllers:

      • Mackie MCU in HUI and MackieControl

      • Yamaha DM1000 in HUI

      • Yamaha DM2000 in HUI

      • Raditec SAC2-k in HUI (MackieControl is not working properly)

      • Tascam US-2400 in HUI (MackieControl is configure specifically for some other DAWs than
        Pyramix)

      • You need a valid Remote Control Support and Remote Control – Midi EMC keys (be aware
that this key name is still displayed as Remote Control – Midi HUI in V5.0 issued keys).

      • As EMC is implemented as a subset of OASIS, to configure a remote connection, you need
to add an OASIS controller in the appropriate Pyramix settings page and then choose EMC in
        the OASIS options dialog.
Faders, Solo, Mute, Pan, Surround Panning, Auxes, Vu-Meter, Advance channel display,
Strip tools, transport (Internal and Externals machines), Bank switching, Jog is fully
        supported.

      • For additional information consult the EMC User Manual

    Edited Master (DST encoded).

  • SACD Cutting Master Wizard (Project Menu) for the preparation and verification of files for the Cutting
    Master generation.

  • Some new functions in CD/SACD Authoring:

    • New ‘Create CD Disc From SACD Area’ function available when right-clicking on an SACD Area

    • New ‘Copy Stereo Area to Multi-channel Area’ and ‘Copy Multi-channel Area to Stereo Area’
functions available when right-clicking on an SACD Area

    • New ‘Import Info from Parent Disc’ function available when right-clicking on an SACD Area

    • New ‘Import Text Channel Settings from SACD Album’ function available when right-clicking on
      an SACD Area

    • New ‘Import Info from Parent Album’ function available when right-clicking on an Disc

  • Import of Video Clips in the timeline

    • The InterChange - Import dialog now offers some Video Import Options:

      • If the imported file contains Video Tracks or Clips: Place the Video Clips in the Timeline.
If this option is checked then any Video Clips present in the imported file will be placed in
the timeline as black Video Clips. These clips are usable only for reference and are not
played back as such by Pyramix (see below for playing them back).

      • And open the referenced Video Media:

        • In Virtual Transport Video Players (if there’s only one single Video Clip) or in
VCube (if there are many Video Clips). A single Video Clip present in the
imported file is opened in the DirectShow Video Player or the QuickTime Video
Player (depending of its type). Multiple Video Clips present in the imported file
          are opened in VCube.

        • Always in VCube. Single or multiple Video Clips are opened in VCube.

        • Don’t open them.
Imported Video Clips are only placed in the timeline (optionally)
but not opened in any Video Player.

  • Imported Video Clips are saved in the project, so, when the project is opened, the Video Clips will
be present again on the timeline. The referenced Video Media will be automatically opened in
either Virtual Transport Players or VCube depending the same options than above but for general
project opening that can be found in:

    • All Settings > General Page > Project Opening Section > If the project contains
references to Video Media, open them:

      • In Virtual Transport Video Players (if there’s only one single Video Clip) or in
VCube (if there are many Video Clips).

      • Always in VCube

      • Don’t open them

  • The InterChange – Import dialog offers a new module: Video Clips Import

    • If the Place the Video Clips in the Timeline option is checked then the system prompts to
      either:

      • Load a new Video Media file in the Virtual Transport Video Players and create a
Video Clip in the Timeline for it, or

      • Create a Video Clip in the Timeline based on a Video Media already loaded in
        the Virtual Transport Video Players.

      • If the Place the Video Clips in the Timeline option is NOT checked then the system
simply allows loading a Video Media file in the Virtual Transport Video Players.

  • Current Limitations:

    • VCube and QuickTime Player support not yet implemented. Only single Video Clips will
be opened in DirectShow Video Player for now.

    • Editing the Video Clips will have no effect on the way they’re played back. Moving a
Video Clip will only have an effect when the project is saved and opened again.

    • Video Clips are not exported when the project is exported through InterChange – Export.
